There is not a single good thing about this law. People who don't want to take care of themselves shouldn't be forced to take care of themselves, nor should they be punished for NOT taking care of themselves. This is now, always was, and always will be a personal choice issue.
Silly laws like this one foster resentment with cops that are weeding out this “injustice”, and for lawmakers who take it upon themselves to decide what is best for us.
Many people think that because it’s a good idea to use seatbelts, that it makes for a good law. What they don’t consider is all of the problems that come with enforcement of this terrible law: taking cops out of service, infringing on personal freedoms, etc.
I will NEVER vote for a control freak who wants to control my life.

I read in Sunday's newspaper that the CHP was targeting crashes. "Officer spends his days trying to thwart accidents by citing drivers who talk on phone, speed" was the byline. But then, the caption on the associated photo read "After speaking with the driver of... writes him a citation for not wearing a seatbelt."
Although I laud the efforts of the authorities to help make our streets and highways a safer place to be, how does writing seatbelt tickets help thwart crashes? It DOESN’T. These people are endangering nobody but themselves, yet CHP is on the prowl for them.
With the viciousness of a hungry cougar, CHP descends upon their unsuspecting prey, mercilessly ripping hundreds of dollars from the solid grasp of their hard-working victims. The reason? For nothing more than not taking care of themselves the way Big Brother says they should.
Additionally, when the CHP is wasting their time writing seatbelt tickets, they can't be preventing people from speeding, talking on their phone, tailgating, or otherwise driving recklessly.
I am convinced that these laws, and their ill-advised execution of them, have only one purpose: to fill the coffers of the state government. What does it take to wake people up, and vote out the proponents of this legal bullying?
